Newton St Boswells- Turfing

Turfing in Newtown St boswells- the class last Wednesday went to this garden were we where clearing the site out then turfing the area. We got there and we are all thinking this garden is a tip wood everywhere, weeds over grown, plants dead, plants that we needed to move. I'm thinking this is gonna be a big job at this point we all start working moving all the old tools and wood getting the weeds out using forks spades. By the end of the day it was clear it was a big job but the class finished it, the next day we spent time digging over the garden finding out that at one end of the garden it was beautiful soil for growing vegetables or flowers but at the other end we saw that it was more of a clay soil hard and tough hard to dig over not the ideal place for growing things on. By lunch time we had started fixing the boards for the veg patch it was myself and 3 other people we worked a bit into lunch just to get it to a point were we could just do little to it after lunch. Lunch finished and we were back to work fixing these boards up it took some time though because we just couldn't get the level of the boards right but with a wee bit of moving here and there we got it right and hammered the posts into place. that was it for that week we were ready for the turf.
